What are HVLS fans?

Designed to hang from a ceiling without the use of cords, high-volume, low-speed fans provide a safer working environment for employees since trip hazards are eliminated, and in fact, all direct interactions between staff and fans is all but eliminated with most HVLS models. Almost maintenance free, the use of direct drive motors also eliminates the risk of oil leaks. While some HVLS fans have gearbox motors, others have direct drive motors. The latter significantly reduces the level of noise generated, along with workability related maintenance and weight. With fewer parts and hardware, direct drive motors still give a great performance and simply put; move more air for less bucks.

How do HVLS fans work?

It’s possible to have too much air circulation, which can affect multiple factors in a working environment, so HVLS fans have been adapted to slowly circulate large amounts of air, creating a far more comfortable working environment. With wingspan ranging from 7 to 24 feet and able to move large volumes of air with minimal energy consumption per square foot, costs are greatly reduced and comfort is vastly improved. Also, if a building has an HVLS fan installed (or several), businesses typically see a reduction in employee absenteeism and complaints, and overall productivity is increased. Many companies who choose to install HVLS fans quickly see not only a reduction in their energy bills because they no longer need to use expensive air-cooling systems, but in a building with high ceilings, they also experience warmer air during the colder months. Because warm air rises, the cooler air remains at floor level, forcing heating systems to work twice as hard to keep employees warm enough to continue with their work. With an HVLS fan however, the warm air trapped at ceiling level is circulated and recycled back down to floor level, where the employees will feel the benefit.
